Beauty How-To: Eyebrow Shaping
Brow guru Nicky Mayers reveals her tips and tricks for getting the perfect arch.
THE SHAPE OF BROWS
"Full eyebrows are exotic looking" for those not blessed with thickness, however Mayers says having the correct shape is important, you can use make up to add depth and fill in gaps.
GET A GOOD START
Visualize brow shape before you start, the front of the brow should align with the upper bridge of the nose.
YOU NEED GUIDELINES
Fill in brows before plucking, insures no risk of over plucking, using a browlady pencil at a perpendicular angel from the front of the brow- top widest part -turn it sideways at the arch for a thinner line at the end. The arch should be three-quarters of the way from the nose bridge, from there it should taper off.
BRUSH UPWARDS
After drawing the desired eyebrow shape, use a sooplie brush to coax the hairs up to lift.
TWEEZE STRAY HAIRS
Once you have finish filling in and brushing, remove unwanted hairs with a slanted tweezer. If you accidentally tweeze into the arch, it brings the brow down instead of lifting it up. Mayers recommends tweezing brows simultaneously, couple hairs from one brow, then from the other minimizes the risk of over plucking.
CLOSE THE GAP
Use the browlady pencil, add pigment in the area between the front-end and inner arch.
TRIM EXCESS HAIR
Only trim if you have to. Feathery eyebrows are full and beautiful -the more you trim, the harsher your hairs will grow in. Here is how to tell if you need a trim; using a spoolie brush, come hairs upwards at an angle, in the direction of brow. If hairs are noticeably longer than others or hang over the edge, snip sparingly.
RETRACE YOUR STEPS
After you have plucked and trimmed, the penciled-in makeup will likely have faded. Go back and fill in where you needed.
